Life of an Intern
For those of you who I have not yet met, my name is Sarah Gallagher. I have been completing my placement as a Master’s student here at Changing Tides Counselling since September 2021. We may have spoken on the phone during a free consultation or maybe you were one of my clients enrolled in the subsidized service or pay what you can program. Making therapy services more accessible and affordable for the members of our community is something our therapists take great pride in. During my placement, I co-facilitated a virtual anxiety group for adolescents, completed trainings and presented a Trauma Informed Care workshop to other professionals in the helping field. I have also been writing the website blogs and posting psycho educational content on our social media page.
As an intern, I was made to feel extremely welcome by Nichole Caswell, owner of Changing Tides Counselling, and the team. The opportunity to practice under an experienced, caring, dedicated and skilled supervisor has been incredibly enriching. I want to take time to acknowledge the amazing colleagues I have had the chance to collaborate with and learn from. Rachel Millar, Rachel Keenan and Chantal Pfaff, your guidance and support has helped me grow as a novice therapist and I am truly grateful for the role each of you have played in my journey. I am equally grateful for everyone who took the chance on me as a student therapist, allowing me to explore vulnerabilities, emotions, and your unique worldviews. Of course, I am bias, but you will not be disappointed with the knowledge, compassion, empathy and care each therapist demonstrates within every therapeutic relationship they establish.
I will be moving on to work with Homewood Health Centre for their inpatient program, as A Mental Health & Addiction: Trauma Specialization therapist. But I will never forget the last 8 months and the valuable experience I have gained. I have nothing but love for Changing Tides and the team and will miss them dearly. However, I am “passing on the torch” so to speak to our two new interns who will be joining us in May. I am confident they will have similar experiences as I did and I wish them the best of luck
