Couples Counselling and Therapy
Are you still searching for your “happily ever after?”
The truth is, “happily ever after” doesn’t exist in real life. Nor should it.
Conflict and struggle in our relationships can often be a sign of growth. It’s important to remember: relationships never have an “end point.” People are growing and changing all the time - and that’s a good thing!
The problem comes when our growth and change affects our relationships with our partners. If changes in work, lifestyle or other factors are causing communication breakdowns and wedges in your relationships, a couples counsellor can relieve emotional strain for all people involved.
Most times, the issue isn’t that we don’t love our partners. We simply haven’t created a space where open and safe communication can flourish. This can lead to a constant back and forth of name-calling, passive-aggressiveness, resentment or other common relationship issues.
Why are my partner and I struggling?
If you’re noticing a change in your relationship where arguments seem like a regular occurrence, a good first step is to seek help from a counsellor. We can ensure everyone has a chance to be heard and understood. Couples counselling in helpful for those who feel like their relationship is in distress, but also for those couples who want to improve communication with their partner. By having a “neutral” mental health professional in the room, couples can being to open up and begin listening more closely to one another, without getting caught in the typical patterns and arguments.
When should we seek couples counselling?
Issues such as betrayal, trauma, conflict, distance and separation are all things that our therapists work with. We want to see you liking and listening your partner again and increase the security and safety within the relationship. Perhaps it won’t be “happily ever after” but at least it can be “understanding and content with right now.”
